What Screen Printing Is and Why It Lasts

Screen printing pushes ink through a fine mesh screen onto the garment, one color at a time. Each color in your design gets its own screen, lined up on the press so every color lands exactly where the artwork says it should. The ink goes down in a thick, solid layer, so a good screen print looks bold and feels like part of the shirt.

The step most people never see is curing. After printing, every shirt runs through a conveyor dryer that heats the ink until it fully bonds with the fabric. Cured correctly, the print stays vibrant, bold and extremely durable, wash after wash, without cracking or fading. That is why we are precise at every step, from screen making and ink mixing to the final cure.

Because the screens are set up once for the whole run, screen printing gets more efficient as quantities go up, making it the go-to method for bulk t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts.

Specialty Inks & Finishes

Add texture, shine and sparkle to your design. Specialty inks can be combined with standard colors in the same print.

We also offer high-density ink, which builds up sharp, sculpted edges for a bold, retail-quality look. Ask us which finish suits your artwork and garment before you approve your proof.

When Screen Printing Is the Right Choice

  • You need 24 or more pieces with the same design, such as crew shirts, event tees or a merch drop.
  • Your artwork uses solid, defined colors like logos, lettering and bold illustrations.
  • Color accuracy matters. We match inks to your Pantone codes so your brand color looks the same on every shirt.
  • You want the print to hold up to heavy wear, like work shirts washed every week or merch sold at shows.

If your design is a photo, has soft gradients or uses a lot of colors, full-color heat transfers may be a better match. For polos, hats and jackets that need a stitched look, our in-house embroidery is usually the way to go. Not sure? Send us the artwork and we will recommend the best method.

RECENT JOB

A Matching T-Shirt Set for Reed’s

We printed two t-shirt designs for Reed’s, created to work together as a collection. Both shirts bring in the brand’s colors, inverted from one shirt to the other so they read as a matching set.

Design 1: Cream Tee

A two-color print in dark green and orange for a pop of color. 134 pieces on the Comfort Colors 1717 garment-dyed heavyweight t-shirt, a fan favorite that looks great and gets even better after each wash.

Design 2: Forest Green Tee

Printed in cream ink. 36 pieces on the Next Level 3600, a premium 100% cotton t-shirt.

Next Level Apparel has been our go-to brand for quality t-shirt blanks for over 15 years. The shirts fit right, the fabric is soft and smooth, and every print looks sharp.

Screen Printing FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most about screen printing, minimums and timelines.

Have another question? See all FAQs or contact us.

Will my screen print crack or fade in the wash?

Not when it is done right. The key is curing: the ink has to be fully cured in the dryer to bond with the fabric. We are precise at every step, from screen making and ink mixing to curing, so your print stays vibrant, bold and durable wash after wash.

What is the minimum for screen printing?

24 pieces per design. You can mix garment styles, colors and sizes to reach 24, as long as the artwork, print size and ink colors are the same across the batch.

Should I choose screen printing or heat transfers?

Screen printing is best for solid-color designs in bulk and gives the most durable, vivid result. Full-color heat transfers suit photos, gradients and designs with many colors. Send us your file and we will recommend the better option.

What file format should I send?

Vector files such as AI, EPS, PDF or SVG work best. If all you have is a low-quality image, we offer logo vectorizing for an additional fee, and basic cleanup is free.

Can I bring my own shirts to be printed?

No. We print only on blanks we supply, which lets us stand behind the finished piece. We carry a wide selection of t-shirts, hoodies and other apparel to choose from.

Can you print by a specific date?

Our standard turnaround is 2 weeks from payment and proof approval. Rush orders may be available for an additional fee depending on our schedule, so reach out early with your deadline.
